Anyone who has tried to get abs know that it is not an easy task. While it is easy enough for some to flatten their abs and keep their waistline trim, getting a six pack is a totally different matter. A person who wants to know how to get six pack abs should steer clear of the notion that he can achieve his goal just by setting aside a few minutes everyday on crunches and leg raises. If you are serious about getting six-packs, then you should be prepared to do serious work on your body as well.

Before you panic, though, bear in mind that the terms “difficult” and “hard work” are not necessarily synonymous with “torturous”. And if you are sick of your belly fat and are too embarrassed to take your shirt off at the beach, then perhaps you will find the result worthy of all the hard work you will have to endure.

First of all, don’t just do exercises that focus on your belly. You could do crunches all day everyday and it still won’t do the trick. Why? Because getting a six-pack is more effectively achieved not by doing crunches but by losing body fat and strengthening abdominal muscles. So, instead of thinking “I want to have fab abs” and killing yourself with crunches, think instead that “I want to be healthy and stay in shape”.

Staying in shape may mean a change in lifestyle for some, or just a few habit adjustments for others. What you basically need to do is combine your crunches with cardiovascular exercises and other routines that work to strengthen the entire body. To boost the results of your exercise regimen and ensure that you keep the body you worked so hard to get, you must also learn to discipline yourself when it comes to food intake.

Instead of eating three large meals a day, try eating five small meals everyday. And if you get hunger pangs at any time of the day, drink water instead of grabbing a bite to eat. Hunger pangs are usually our body’s own way of telling us we need water. It is in fact advisable to drink lots of water throughout the day.

The above tips may seem easy enough. The real challenge is in practicing it religiously, as it can be extremely difficult to maintain discipline especially where food is concerned. But by adopting these simple lifestyle changes and making it an integral part of your life, you will be sure to reap the benefits in the form of drop-dead gorgeous six-pack abs.
